project details
Salt Lake City will host the XXVII Olympic Winter Games in 2034 for the second time. The 2002 Games set a lasting benchmark with iconic, unforgettable branding. For 2034, NBC’s Olympic visual identity builds on that legacy while introducing a new chapter shaped for today’s audiences and the next generation of Olympic storytelling.

The Concept
hexagons
The branding draws inspiration by the geometry surrounding Salt Lake City. From the city grid to the salt crust patterns of the Bonneville Salt Flats, hexagon are present . The hexagon brings a feeling of strength and unity, much like the athletes and nation gathering to compete in the Olympics.

Design Details
logo
The logo references hexagons and the grid-like nature around Salt Lake City through angles and compactness of the letters.
The letter "a" is a subtle reference to the Salt Lake Temple, a widely recognizable landmark of the city.

pictogram
I allowed some flexibility in how closely the pictograms adhere to a hexagonal form. Because a hexagon can feel rigid and restrictive, I instead used its defining angles as a guide to preserve the geometric influence while allowing the pictograms to feel more dynamic and expressive.
